Juli 2026

July 8, 2026

Subject: Critical questions regarding your electricity mix, the expansion of wind power, and the raw material supply chain Dear Sir or Madam,

As a customer of your company, I deeply appreciate that EWS emerged from a dedicated citizens‘ initiative and stands apart from large energy corporations. Nevertheless, I view the current, proud expansion of wind power in your portfolio with great concern and do not actually wish to support it. However, since there are hardly any completely suffering-free alternatives on the market, I am already attempting to radically minimize my own electricity consumption.

Triggered by the increased focus on wind turbines, I have looked into global supply chains and the ecological as well as social consequences of the so-called energy transition. Reports from the International Energy Agency (IEA) and research into copper and steel mining (such as in the Chilean Atacama Desert) drastically show that the enormous demand for raw materials for wind turbines, e-cars, and batteries leads to massive environmental destruction, health damage to indigenous populations, and geopolitical conflicts worldwide. Furthermore, global electricity demand continues to rise due to data centers, AI, and industry, meaning that wind power often merely feeds an increased consumption rather than truly replacing fossil energies.

As a citizens‘ initiative that stands for transparency and ecology, I would like to ask you to address the following critical questions within your FAQs or in a personal response:

Human rights and raw materials: Is the construction of a wind turbine today even possible without human suffering and the destruction of nature? Where do you source the steel and copper used, and how do you ensure that no rainforests are destroyed or regions in the Global South are ecologically ruined for it?

Alternative construction methods: Do you look into ecological alternatives for your projects, such as wooden wind turbines („Made in Germany“), or do you already use them?

Local environmental consequences: What findings and measures do you have regarding the impact of wind turbines on local soil life, the insect world, and the flight behavior of wildlife?

Rotor blade abrasion and emissions: How do you deal with the material abrasion (microplastics/composite materials) of the rotor blades during operation, which enters the soil and the air? What are the effects of the altered air circulation caused by large wind farms? Do you regularly measure the concentration of PFAS in the soil of your wind farms?

Dismantling and contracts: Who bears the financial costs for dismantling the systems after their operating life in your community projects? Are there fixed, legally secured decommissioning clauses and corresponding financial reserves in the contracts, and if so, how high are they?

Local transparency: Do you offer videos, reports, or direct citizen voices from the wind farms you have created to show how real life and walks in nature shape up with these systems in place?

In the past, your electricity came primarily from hydroelectric power plants (including from Norway). For me personally, the expansion of wind power is a step in the wrong direction. It destroys nature in the short term, especially when new technologies for energy generation will soon become available. No one will remove the concrete blocks from the ground, and the soil takes a very long time to regenerate.

I would be pleased if EWS, as a pioneer of the energy transition, does not ignore these critical questions but instead faces the real dark sides of the technology. I would highly appreciate a detailed response to my questions.

Sincerely

Quelle:

Ja wie was jetzt Absprache.

Textausschnitt: We need to step back and let her (nature) lead ..to take care of..to be guardians of.. The body of earth knows how to support her system of life

Obwohl.. was bleibt sonst übrig?

Source:

My electricity provider EWS is now proudly using wind turbines too. I don’t want to support that, but I have no choice. There is no suffering-free electricity provider.

What I can do is save as much electricity as possible.

Anyone who lives alone and doesn’t have to provide for a large family can live well without a refrigerator for a good part of the year. In fact, even year-round. As long as there are refrigerators available when shopping.

The phone can be set to disconnected from Wi-Fi / mobile data when the internet is not being used.

As an example: if I leave the connection to the network off, my older phone lasts the whole night (alarm clock); if I leave it on while I sleep, the battery is dead in the morning.

Since social media is also an addiction, I can’t say it would be easy to use it less. The less it is used, the more electricity is saved, that’s clear.

E-bike: Is it worth blood being spilled for it? See the Ukraine war, soil resources, etc.

From 2030, it will probably be built-in.

No organic seal on it, but rather a „made with human blood“ label. Dat kauft keener mehr.

It would be interesting to know which products can be bought without it.

A quick research on the Syrian war, because I would like to know if blood is already sticking to e-bikes, cars, and wind turbines today. That was also about raw materials. Gas, oil, and probably uranium.

And anyone who watched Oktoberfest 1900 on ARD notices: oops, there is murder and blood attached to that too. Competitors in beer production were simply destroyed.

A quick research on how long copper will still be available. 100 years. But it can probably be recycled well.

But it also causes suffering.

From: https://www.ndr.de/fernsehen/sendungen/ndrstory/Schmutziges-Kupfer-Die-dunkle-Seite-der-Energiewende,sendung1284160.html „Copper mining in South America – an ecological disaster The cancer rate in the Chilean Atacama Desert, where copper is mined, is up to seven times higher than elsewhere in Chile. The NDR team is researching in Chile, a country with huge copper reserves. Far to the north, in the province of Chuquicamata, is the largest copper mine in the world. It is located in the Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on earth. The ground is being torn open on a gigantic scale here to extract the valuable metal. Although it hardly ever rains here, the pit devours vast amounts of water to extract the copper. An ecological disaster. The villages of the people living in the surrounding area are simply dried out, and the rest of the water is contaminated with heavy metals. The terrible result is a cancer rate that is five to six times higher than elsewhere in the country.“

So phones, e-bikes, and cars should have a seal stating: Produced with human suffering. So not just starting in 2030. Produced with suffering of nature doesn’t catch on as well.

An alternative for less suffering: the Fairphone.

From: https://shop.fairphone.com/de/about-us „Net-Zero by 2045 As consumers, we have the greatest leverage by keeping our smartphones for as long as possible. This automatically reduces carbon emissions from production, transport, and waste. That is why our devices are designed for longevity. Furthermore, as a company, we have stated that we can do more. For us, that means Net-Zero.“

I am very worried, just like with the tree watering bags project, that wind turbines will stand everywhere and not be utilized.

Then wind power would be a project only for the years when remnants can still be stolen from the earth. And then?

Who pays for the dismantling? Or will they just stand around for 300 years until one blade after another falls off and poisons the soil, which it already does while in operation due to the abrasion of the rotor blades.

Furthermore, the Ukraine war is also partly about the supply of wind power raw materials.

That is why the EU sends money there for weapons and death, to then get a deal for the materials. This is my analysis and not a fact that has been scientifically proven and stated as established in the media.

Information on the internet states that the soil resources there are needed for wind power. From: https://energiewinde.orsted.de/energiewirtschaft/windraeder-bestandteile-rohstoff-versorgung-recycling „For instance, the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) sees an insufficient supply of copper, nickel, and rare earth metals until the year 2030 in its paper ‚Critical Minerals for Wind Turbine Construction‘ (https://attachments.vdma.org/attachments/BIIIwU93J9ojKng2XQVLPDF). The situation is only expected to ease after 2030. On the one hand, because new mining projects should be operational by then. On the other hand, because supply through recycling will then take on greater significance.“

Perhaps this refers to Ukraine. And how long will the supply of precious metals last there, because the military and AI need them too. E-cars presumably as well.

It goes on to say: „However, significantly more systems will have to be produced and installed in the future, if only to achieve the ambitious climate plans in Germany, let alone the rest of the world. And this, in turn, causes the demand for raw materials to skyrocket.“

And does that, in turn, cause the rise in CO₂?

And on the Tagesschau From: https://www.tagesschau.de/wirtschaft/energie/weltweiter-strombedarf-kernenergie-kohle-100.html

„IEA Study: The world is consuming more and more electricity“

My point exactly. The wind turbines are for MORE electricity.

„As of: Feb 14, 2025, 10:55 AM Increasing amounts of electricity are being used for industrial production, and the demand for air conditioning, data centers, or transport is also rising. Especially in China, the demand for electricity is growing. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), global electricity consumption will rise sharply in the coming years. Until 2027, the experts at the IEA predict an annual increase in consumption of almost four percent. The increase is primarily due to the rapidly growing use of electricity for industrial production, the rising demand for air conditioning, increasing electrification, particularly in the transport sector, and the rapid expansion of data centers. The largest share of the additional demand, at 85 percent, falls on emerging and developing countries, according to the IEA.“

China is building almost twice as much capacity for wind and solar energy as the rest of the world. How is that possible?

Much energy needed for battery production

The trend is most distinct in China, where electricity demand has grown faster than the overall economy since 2020. Chinese electricity consumption rose by seven percent in 2024 and is expected to increase by an average of around six percent annually until 2027. Contributing to the growth in demand in China is also the rapidly expanding, energy-intensive production of solar panels, batteries, and electric cars, as well as the introduction of electric vehicles, data centers, and 5G networks.

Feb 9, 2025

CO2 Neutrality: Which technologies are suitable for climate protection? Climate-neutral Germany 2045 – this goal is anchored in the Climate Protection Act and has been internationally pledged. more

China expands electricity production with coal

According to an analysis by the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (Crea) and the Global Energy Monitor, China continues to increasingly rely on electricity generation from coal, contrary to earlier indications. According to this, China began construction of coal projects with a total capacity of about 94.5 gigawatts in 2024 – a peak value since 2015, according to the experts. New plants came online generating a combined 30.5 gigawatts of capacity, which was less than the previous year (49.8 gigawatts). China is thus continuing to build up coal capacities, contrary to the global trend. The report states that in the fourth quarter of 2024, the use of solar and wind energy dropped drastically, while the country generated electricity from fossil fuels at a high level, even though electricity demand grew more slowly.“

So, that is how I understood it now. Or did I understand it?

„…expanding, energy-intensive production of solar panels, batteries, and electric cars, as well as the introduction of electric vehicles, data centers, and 5G networks.“

I read in another article that China needs the coal for the energy-intensive production of wind turbine parts.

„Jan 16, 2025

Dozens of states plan expansion: The global comeback of nuclear energy According to the IEA, interest in nuclear power is stronger than it has been since the oil crisis in the 1970s. more

Heat pumps, e-cars, and data centers drive demand in the EU

In the EU, the demand for electricity has recently grown slightly according to the IEA analysis. However, it is not expected to reach 2021 levels again before 2027. Households and commerce were responsible for the demand growth of 1.4 percent last year, particularly with increased use of heat pumps and e-cars as well as a higher demand from data centers. The International Energy Agency assumes that the growth of low-emission energy sources, especially renewables and nuclear energy, will be sufficient overall to cover the increase in global electricity demand over the next three years. Electricity generation from photovoltaics is expected to cover about half of the global increase in demand. In 2024, electricity generation from photovoltaics already surpassed that from coal in the EU, with the share of solar energy in the electricity mix exceeding ten percent.

At the same time, nuclear energy is experiencing a comeback according to the IEA forecast. Its electricity generation is expected to reach an annual peak by 2027. The reason for the comeback is the recovery of French nuclear power production, the restarting of plants in Japan, and the launch of new reactors in China, India, Korea, and other countries. On a political level, there is renewed interest in nuclear power, highlighting its importance as a stable backbone in low-emission energy systems for a growing number of countries, according to the IEA. Despite the increasing importance of renewable energy sources, no net decline in the use of fossil fuels is foreseeable worldwide by 2027. Global coal-fired power generation is expected to stagnate during this period, the energy agency explained. Declining coal-fired power generation in the EU and the US is offset by increases in India and Southeast Asia. The situation looks similar for electricity generation from natural gas, where steady annual growth of about one percent is expected until 2027.“

My questions for EWS FAQs would be:

Is a wind turbine possible without the murder of humans?

Where else does the steel come from? Yes, also from the rainforest. Wind power is thus a lie. It is only about more energy. „Everyone“ is into it and says we have to do this. I am trying to contribute to the solution of how it can work without these creepy things.

Is a wooden wind turbine made in Germany perhaps the „better“ solution for you for now, or do you already use it and I just couldn’t find it spontaneously?

It would be nice if you could address the questions of what a wind turbine does to soil organisms.

What the crumbs from the rotors do.

Why animals flee from them.

What do so many rotors cause as circulation in the air? The air is then no longer free either. And it gets disturbed and influenced.

What effects does a wind turbine have on the insect world?

Who pays for the dismantling of the wind turbine in a community project?

What happens when China can no longer deliver steel because everyone—and Ukraine then too—is completely depleted? And the rainforest is gone too and no steel can come from there anymore either?

How long will the steel last for wind energy? Is there a decommissioning clause for this in the contract?

And perhaps some voices from citizens who go for walks in the projects you created, and their impressions of how it feels to walk along there? Or show videos of the wind farms there. So people know it isn’t bad to walk in nature with these companions in it.

Yes, actually I wanted to research at EWS where the electricity comes from. I had asked before and they said from the hydroelectric plant, and if the electricity isn’t enough, from hydropower in Norway.

Currently, I am researching how I can build a website in the most energy-saving way and which hoster I can choose. In the process, I came across an interesting company in Iceland where the electricity comes only from volcanic energy and water energy. Phew, good, no wind power. All other providers then have a „Naturstrom“ certificate, but I do not want to use wind power. And thus I don’t want to look for a future hoster that offers this.

I am indeed very critical, or let’s say precise.

Unfortunately, this hoster also offers a „Plant a tree“ tool, and I am not quite convinced about that either and assume that „Plant a tree“ projects are often like wind power projects. I haven’t verified this yet, but so far I have only seen neat rows of plantings of the same variety, bred without father and mother in a tree nursery or a huge hall where all children grow next to each other in neat rows at the same age.

Yes, I know, just let me be precise right there. Yes, wheat grows like that too and carrots too, etc. The difference for me lies in the fact that vegetables are grown for eating. Forest is NOT grown in my world. Wood can also be taken from primeval forests.

Yes, what about consultation now.

In consultation with the forest and the nature there.

Giving nature a voice.

Text excerpt: We need to step back and let her (nature) lead ..to take care of..to be guardians of.. The body of earth knows how to support her system of life

Now I would have to ask the tree planter whether they work together with nature and ask her before planting how she would like it. Which trees or what else.

And ask EWS to do without wind power. Because otherwise I don’t know who to choose. Although… what else is left? At least it is a company that emerged from a citizens‘ initiative and not a large corporation.

PS: The flags on the boats show the Netherlands.
