Neurodiversity Pongs: The 1/1/1 Rule
A self-experiment and strategy development for everyday neurodivergent life.
The Concept: The 1/1/1 Rule
I know the challenge: tasks that don’t align with my current interests—whether it’s household chores, bureaucracy, or basic self-care—often feel like insurmountable hurdles. My solution is a simple but effective impulse: The 1/1/1 Rule.
The Method: When a task triggers resistance, I reduce it to exactly one minute. One minute is a timeframe my brain always accepts.
- 1 minute of tidying up
- 1 minute of movement
- 1 minute of free choice
- 1 minute of conscious relaxation/clearing the mind
This technique has helped me catapult myself out of low-energy phases in the past. Today, I’m reactivating this method to give my body and living space some targeted attention.
